Steering wheel removal on the late model
rubber bumper MGB and 1500cc Midget.

I would like to cover the removal of the steering wheels on the late model rubber bumper MGB and 1500cc Midget. On many occasions while in the course of putting in a new turn signal switch or windshield wiper switch, I would have to remove the steering wheel. Easier said than done, I have had three strong mechanics trying to pull it off, no success. I have tried a large clawed pulling tool, no success. So as a last resort, I have removed the whole steering column from the car and then put it in a power press. This always worked, but a lot of work to remove the steering wheel. When I put the steering wheel back in I would always put on a good coating of anti-seize compound on the steering shaft, thus helping the next poor soul that had to take the steering wheel off. If any of our members have a trick for steering wheel removal on these cars, I’m sure a lot of our members would like to know.
